Palliative care for terminally ill patients in the Netherlands: Dutch government policy.

Francke, A.L. Palliative care for terminally ill patients in the Netherlands: Dutch government policy. Den Haag: Ministerie van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport, 2003. 36 p.
There is a broad range of palliative care available in the Netherlands. There are many options for obtaining palliative care at home. The care that terminally ill patients need can also be provided in nursing homes, care homes, hospitals and hospices. Government policy in this field is one of the reasons for rapid change in the palliative care sector in recent years. Since the middle of the nineteennineties the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has initiated measures aimed at the stimulation and further development of palliative care. This publication gives an insight into these policy measures and their implications for care provision, training and research in the field of palliative care.
