The supply of general practitioners in the Netherlands.

Velden, L. van der, Hingstman, L. The supply of general practitioners in the Netherlands. In: G.P. Westert; L. Jabaaij; F.G. Schellevis. Morbidity, performance and quality in primary care: Dutch general practice on stage. Oxon: Radcliffe Publishing, 2006. 256-264
In the previous chapter, Polder et al. give a description of the developments in the need for
general practitioner (GP) care in the Netherlands. To complement this need-analysis, we will give a
description of the supply development that can be expected. In order to make a supply prognosis, we
will also look into the developments in the supply of the past decade. Therefore, we will answer
the following research questions: how has the supply of GPs developed in the last decade and how
will this supply develop up to the year 2020? To what extent will there be a shortage or a surplus
of GPs in 2010 and 2020, if the demand for GP care develops according to the demographic and
epidemiological projections made in the previous chapter? (aut. ref.)
