BIRD: global burden of influenza and RSV

Duration: Nov 2018 - Jun 2021

Background
The Global Burden of Influenza and RSV (BIRD) project is a collaboration between several international partners, including the University of Edinburgh, Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) and OpenHealth.

Aim
Together we are trying to better map the global disease burden of both influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This is derived from national data on hospital admissions and mortality rates related to one of these respiratory infections.

Method
These data are collected and interpreted on the basis of literature research and meta-analyses. Nivel mainly focuses on the influenza figures.

Result
The ultimate goal is to make this information accessible by publishing it on an online, open-access platform.
