Duration: May 2015 - June 2018

Background
The continuously increasing prevalence of cardio-metabolic diseases (including cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, and chronic renal failure) is a major health problem in developed countries which is mainly caused by an unhealthy lifestyle. Most important lifestyle related causes of morbidity and mortality are smoking, obesity and physical inactivity.

Aim
The SPIMEU project aims at contributing to the reduction of cardio-metabolic morbidity and mortality in EU Member States by establishing the feasibility of implementing innovative evidence based selective prevention actions.

Methods
- Finding out what the determinants are for successful implementation of selective prevention of cardio-metabolic diseases
- Establishing the feasibility of implementing innovative evidence based selective prevention actions in five EU Member States (NLD, SWE, DNK, CZE, GRE) representing various healthcare systems

Results
With our publications we ultimately contribute to the reduction of cardio-metabolic disease in EU Member States by demonstrating the feasibility of implementing innovative selective prevention programmes.
