Systematic case finding and monitoring of hypertension are important instrument reducing the risks for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Potentially, primary care is the best place to carry out these tasks, because active case finding can be well organised opportunistically in relation to curative contacts with patients. Furthermore, the continuing realtionship with patients provides good opportunities for monitoring identified cases and to promote compliance of patients with the treatment. At present, however, resources in Belarus primary care are not optimally applied to identify and follow-up hypertension. Based on experiences of the Matra-2 project, this paper will pay attention to changes aiming at a more systematic, effective and efficient organisation and provision of these tasks in Belarus primary care.
