In this chapter the design of the second Dutch National Survey of General Practice (DNSGP-2) and its
methods of data collection and data analyses are described. The first section provides a short
introduction into the research questions that have guided the design and measurements. In the next
sections the recruitment of the participating practices, the patient population, the data collection
modules and measurements are described. The last sections deal with issues such as the
representativeness, the statistical power of the study, and the comparability of the second and the
