The cross border migration of Flemish general practitioners (GPs) to the Netherlands examined.
In the recent past Belgium experienced a surplus in GPs, while in the Netherlands a shortage was observed. Despite the availability of potential incentives in respect of income and professional practice, surprisingly very few Belgian GPs have moved to practices in the Netherlands. Most probably considerations with regard to social-cultural factors are the most important elements in individual decisions on whether or not to migrate. (aut. ref.)
