This study is concerned with primary care and home care; the scenarios compiled relate to the future organization of this area of health care. Our focus was deliberately not limited to the primary sector as presently constituted, rather being widened to include care provided to people living at home, together with care that could be provided, given the current state of knowledge and the technology, treatments and supervision needed, without admission to hospital. This broader definition thus encompasses both today’s primary care, outpatient specialist care and care provided from nursing and homes for the elderly to patients living in their own home.
